SWCC Head Women's Basketball Coach Brett Gilcrist and the Southwestern Community College women's basketball program are sponsoring a Pink Zone event--a game dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness and donations--on the college's campus. This year, the Spartans' Pink Zone game will be vs. Southeastern Community College on February 29, 2012, 5:30 p.m., at the SWCC Student Center. Following the women's game, the Spartan men will face Kirkwood Community College in a 7:30 p.m. match-up.
A big thanks to the Pink Zone event sponsors for 2012. Sponsors include Curves, First National Bank, Great Western Bank, Greater Regional Cancer Center in partnership with Mercy Medical Center, Iowa State Savings Bank, State Savings Bank, and Wal-Mart. Three’s Company of Creston will be donating pink headbands for the event.
T-Shirts - Pre-orders of the 2012 SWCC Pink Zone T-shirts (pictured) were taken through February 20. A limited number of extra Pink Zone T-shirts will be ordered. Two year's ago, SWCC hosted a similar event, which was a phenomenal success. The SWCC team raised the most funds of any community college for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund® cancer fund.
This year, proceeds from the event will be donated to the Greater Regional Cancer Center in partnership with Mercy Medical Center.
Come support the SWCC Spartans as they play basketball in support of breast cancer research.
